The passes Navegante Municipal e Metropolitan Navigator are subject to discounts of 60% for social scales 4_18 A e U23 A; 50% to step Social+ A; e 25% for scales Social+ B, 4_18 e U23.

The 18 municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area are: Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira.

Sporadic use

If you use transportation sporadically in Lisbon, the best solution is Viva Go and Zapping. You can choose one of them or use both together.

You load the card with as much money as you want and spend the balance as you use it.

Zapping / Prepaid is on all operators.

You can have Zapping and a Navegante pass on the same card. When you don't have the pass active, it is deducted from your balance. You can also have Viva Go on the same card, so when your Zapping balance runs out, the trips are deducted from your bank account.

Postpaid

Pre-load your card and spend.

You don't need to charge. The value of the trips is debited from your bank account.

You can have Zapping and Viva Go on the same card. When your Zapping balance runs out, it will be deducted from your bank account.

Available on all major operators.

These are tickets that you buy from the driver. They are usually more expensive. Check here for available rates.

Why are in-flight tickets more expensive? The purchase of tickets on board the vehicles has implications on the operation of the public transport service and should be discouraged, as it implies the expenditure of time on the part of the driver to purchase the ticket and change, time that has a negative impact on travel time.

These are tickets that you buy in advance at the attended ticket office or at each operator's vending machines. Check here for available rates.

These are tickets valid for a whole day and offer unlimited travel. Check here for available rates.

Subscribing to Viva Go can be done at any ATM in the Transportation option. Simply associate the bank card to the transport card, according to the instructions. To use Viva Go you need a Viva card that is the same as the one used for the pass (it does not work with disposable cards).

Zapping can be loaded onto a disposable card. Charges can be made at any machine in the subway stations, CP, ferries, etc.

Navegante is the ticketing system of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML). The Navegante card allows you to ride on public transportation in all 18 municipalities of the AML and use a variety of other services, such as bicycle parking.

What cards exist?

There are two types of Navegante cards: the Personalized for those who use public transportation a lot, and the Occasional for those who only use them occasionally.

How to make the card in 5 min?

You can make the Navegante card in 5 minutes in automatic machines called Ponto Navegante. There is at least one in each municipality.

How to charge the card?

You can load the Personalized Navigator at any ATM, without queuing. The Ocasional can be loaded at the automatic station machines.

Free Transportation

There are two municipalities in AML offering free transportation to their population.

Lisbon

Lisbon's public transportation (within the municipality) is free for students up to 23 years old and for people over 65 years old with tax domicile in the city.

The gratuitousness applies to people who had tax domicile in the municipality of Lisbon and who:

→ are studentsbetween the ages of 13 and 23,

→ or have age 65 and over.

It should be noted that higher education students enrolled in medicine and architecture courses can benefit from the free ticket up to the age of 24, inclusive. Under-13s are not free because there is already a metropolitan free ticket for under-13s, the Navigator 12.

Membership can be taken at the following locations:

CarrisCarris Stores: Santo Amaro, Arco do Cego and Saldanha
CPCustomer Support Offices: Rossio, Santa Apolónia, Cais do Sodré.
Lisbon MetroClient Spaces: Campo Grande and Marquês de Pombal.
Spaces Navegante: Alameda, Jardim Zoológico, Entrecampos
FertagusCustomer Support Office at Pragal station and, as of October, at any ticket office

Those over 65 can join as of July 25 and start using it immediately. Young people will be able to join as of August 16, but will only be able to load the title as of August 26, for use in the month of September.

To join, you will have to:

  • statement of enrollment issued by the school, in the case of young studentsand the Citizen's Card, in the case of those over 65;
  • tax residence certificatewhich can easily be obtained from the Finance Portal.

In case you don't have a Navegante card, it can be done at the moment of adhesion, in less than five minutes, with a cost of 12 euros and only with the Citizen's Card. The cost of the Navegante card is borne by the person.

Exceptionally, at the beginning of September 2022, if the young student does not yet have the enrollment statement for the year 2022/2023 but has already had a Navegante pass with discount 4_18 or sub23 in the previous year, may benefit from the gratuity during that month, by submitting only the tax domicile certificate.

People over 65 can join at any time. Young students can join annually between September 1st and November 15thbut for young people who turn 13 or 19 during the school year, they can join outside the period mentioned. If you do not

To maintain the gratuitousness it is necessary to renew it annually.

The free ticket is valid for Lisbon's Municipal transport network, which includes all of the city's operators, namely Carris (routes within Lisbon), Metro de Lisboa (the city's urban network), CP (stations within the city) and Fertagus (between Campolide and Roma-Areeiro). People over 65 will not be able to use Fertagus, since the urban mode of Navigator 65 is not part of this railway operator.

Loading the free pass can be done at the following locations:

CarrisCarris Stores: Santo Amaro, Arco do Cego and Saldanha
CPCP Ticket Offices
Lisbon MetroAutomatic machines in all stations and sales offices of the
Campo Grande, Colégio Militar/Luz, Jardim Zoológico, Marquês de Pombal, Rossio, Baixa-Chiado, Cais do Sodré, Oriente and Aeroporto stations
FertagusCustomer Support Office at Pragal station and, as of October, at the Fertagus ticket offices

Without the free regime, the over-65s would pay 15 euros for their pass, while young students would pay between 12 euros and 22.5 euros. The benefits are valid only for the Urban mode of the NaveganteIf you want or need to ride in the entire Lisbon Metropolitan Area, you will still have to pay 20 euros, for those over 65, or between 22.5 euros and 30 euros, for young students; the Lisbon City Hall will not, for the time being, share the difference between the Urban and Metropolitan modes.

More information at the Lisbon City Hall website.

Cascais

Cascais' public road transports (buses only) are free of charge for all people who live in the town (have tax domicile).

Free public transportation in Cascais is valid only in the municipal MobiCascais bus lines, which circulate within the limits of the municipality.

The gratuitousness is destined to all residents, workers and students of Cascais, in the following terms:

Residents: with proof of address. You must revalidate your membership every 2 years;

Students: with proof of enrollment. Membership must be revalidated annually;

Workers: with proof from the employer. You must revalidate the membership annually.

To enjoy free buses in Cascais, you need to adhere to the Viver Cascais card.

The Viver Cascais card can be physical or digital, and offers various benefits to any citizen resident, worker or student in the municipality of Cascais. One of these benefits is the free use of all municipal bus lines (those that circulate only within the Municipality of Cascais).

You can adhere to the Viver Cascais card online. If the digital version of the card is enough for you, there is no cost associated with it and you get the card immediately after joining. If you prefer the physical version, you can request it during the membership process, in which case the card costs 7€ and can be picked up later at a Cascais Store.

Physical or digital, the Viver Cascais card will allow free travel on the municipal road transport network (only routes that circulate exclusively within the municipality, numbered M01 to M41).

With the digital card, all you need is the MobiCascais application by logging into your account. In your personal area you will have the QRCode that will allow you to use the municipal transportation.

With the physical card, all you have to do is present it on the buses. The physical Viver Cascais card substitutes the Navegante card. You can charge it with other valid cards in the AML, for example, with the Navegante Municipal Oeiras pass or with a CP zone subscription.

Here you have the terms and conditions of the Viver Cascais card.
