The plan had been announced in 2016 and, four years later, the works are still going on. The Alcântara Green Corridor promises to change a large part of the city, creating a pedestrian and cycling connection between the Monsanto Forest Park or the top of the Eduardo VII Park and the Tagus River. For now, only one section is completed.
Segmented in four, the intervention saw the conclusion of the first two: the area between Quinta do Zé Pinto and Campolide station and the area surrounding the Águas Livres Aqueduct, under which we can now walk or cycle. The works have stalled in the future Urban Park of Quinta da Bela Flôr, with five hectares and still not looking like the models, nor even finished with the water elements, for example.
It is in this garden that a tunnel is being created to make it possible to pass under the railway line, crossing over to Avenida de Ceuta. This road artery is the last segment of this Green Corridor, which will gain water circulation in the central separator. This water course will be fed by recycled water from the nearby Alcântara Wastewater Treatment Plant. This water will also be used in the maintenance of the green spaces along the cycle-pedestrian corridors.
