The pandemic has forced cities around the world to rethink their public spaces and Lisbon has been no exception. In the last two months, new pedestrian streets have sprung up in the city - some of them only on weekends. But a series of other interventions in the public space are being prepared and are moving forward with the same aim: to give people more space.
At Belém StreetThe sidewalks are tiny and contrast with the very wide road. If we can easily imagine this entire street cut off from traffic, only with public transport, perhaps that is still utopian. For now, let's make do with widening part of the sidewalk. It's only a few meters, but it will make all the difference - for the sake of social distancing, local businesses in the area and quality of life.
