Every weekend in September, a section of Rua da Penha de França in front of the Penha de França Market will be closed to traffic so that people can enjoy the public space. The initiative is part of the The Street Is Street, relaunched by Lisbon City Council in June in response to the current pandemic.
On Saturday and Sunday, the street will be available to be enjoyed in fine weather. Children will be able to play safely without worrying about cars, and there will be some scheduled games, such as monkey games, "the king rules", hide-and-seek or marbles. There will be open-air markets for gastronomy, handicrafts or sustainable products, yoga classes, the construction of a vertical garden or a composting class.
The Initiative The Street Is Yours will only take place on weekends in September at the Sapadores Market. More details can be found at here but the invitation stands: is to go out and discover what the street has to offer!
