The Green Balconies are back! This initiative of the Open Gardens festival comes as a response to the will to think and create a greener, more collaborative and communal city.
In the last edition of the festival, Lisbon gained five new vertical gardens in various parts of the city. Open Gardens returns on the weekends of October 17/18 and 24/25 and will green four more Lisbon facades.
The organization of the event is looking for communities of neighbors who share an interest in plants and respect for nature. The goal is to identify inhabitants from different areas of Lisbon with the will to plant and the right profile to offer the city more gardens!
Having arisen in the middle of the pandemic, the whole activity takes place at a distance, thus complying with all the DGS' Norms and Guidelines: the participants remain on their balconies and the planting instructions are given through the use of a megaphone - physical distance is maintained, while social closeness is promoted.
Registration strictly requires the identification of a building coordinator, as well as ensuring the availability of all residents in the building.
Interested parties should fill in the form application deadline of September 30.
The Jardins Abertos festival is an entirely free event, co-organized by the Lisbon City Hall, and is integrated in the Lisboa European Green Capital program.
The Green Balconies Initiative is supported by Planta Livre.
