One of pop-up The most eagerly awaited road will finally go ahead. It will be a connection of more than 2 km along Rua Conde Almoster and Rua Francisco Gentil Martins, which will allow for connecting Benfica to Sete Rios. The work should start on October 6th and last 30 days.
The new cycle path will start to the north at the existing connection to Monsanto Forest Park and Fonte Nova and end to the south at Sete Rios train station. The council says that, in the future, the section will be continued along Rua Carolina Michaelis de Vasconcelos to the Benfica train station. At the other end, there will be a connection to Praça de Espanha via Rua Professor Lima Basto, where the IPO is located. pop-up.

According to the municipality, this intervention in Conde Almoster and Francisco Gentil Martins Streets "will also make it possible to reduce the speed practiced on that axis, contributing to increased road safety. According to data from the National Road Safety Authority, in 2019, nine people were injured in these two streets as a result of road incidents, including two pedestrians who were hit by cars“.
Next connection to Plaza de España
The cycle path that will end in Sete Rios will later be extended to Praça de Espanha, where the cycling junction is already built and nearing completion. This connection will be made via Rua Professor Lima Basto, the IPO's street, through a bidirectional channel and will be a major project, involving some changes to the existing artery.

According to a descriptive document to which Lisboa Para Pessoas has had access, the Professor Lima Basto will have a bidirectional channel along its length, and for the rest of the traffic, there will be two single opposite directions, which will meet in the middle on Avenue Madame Curie. This change in traffic direction already takes into account the new entrance to the IPO that will be built close to the Praça de Espanha accesses. The project includes a reduction in car parking spaces and the installation of two GIRA bicycle stations, one next to the Sete Rios station with 44 docks, and the other at the entrance to the IPO with 17 docks.
