It's called Watering can and is a new association of neighbors and friends who, in love with "idea of going slower, slower, slower"search for more "time to get to know your neighbor, build stories and bonds, live together, and, together, create a community, even where we live". One such form of coexistence involves getting your hands in the dirt.
Recycling wooden pallets, the neighbors and friends of the watering hole took advantage of the closure to traffic of the surrounding area of the Sappers Market (Penha da França), in the scope of the initiative The Street Is Yoursto create a community garden, with edible and non-edible plants, that can last over time and be a meeting place for those who want to meet there.
The vertical garden has different smells, tastes and colors: Passion Fruit, Rosemary, Lavender, Yellowberry, Gooseberry, Coffee... When adult, these plants "you will be able to gather at your table, in your homes or at a picnic in the garden", reads on the Watering Can Facebook page. "On our part, every sketch drawn, every pallet deconstructed (or cut out to make room for the living wall), every flowerbed made and covered, every piece assembled into the structure, every detail of the irrigation system prepared, every bag of soil poured and every plant placed, were done with all our love for the limitless possibility of sharing stories and experiences among neighbors, families, and, on a first date, possible strangers."
This garden was the first initiative of the Watering Garden, a kind of kick-off, and more ideas will materialize in the coming days, weeks, or months, because these neighbors and friends want to keep meeting each other. The invitation for this meeting came via Facebook and that is where you can follow Regador and find out about future meetings.
For now, Regador leaves this garden available to the city. Anyone can collect whatever grows there and leave new plants in the ground. "Essentially, we know the power that a close community, which assigns a name to each face, has, and the positive impact this also has on our lives and the path to make for a sustainable everyday life, in harmony with our habitat and all those around us." - This is how the Watering Can is presented. "It is in this sense that we support the development of sustainable local communities, that we contribute to the change of consumption patterns, that we encourage the reduction of the pace of life and the appreciation of time in family and community, and that we promote the sharing of resources, knowledge, time and stories, respecting the identity and rhythms of each individual (without exception), child or adult."
