Traffic calming and pedestrian access improvement, allowing social distancing during the periods of greatest affluence of students (entry and exit), are two objectives of two interventions that the Lisbon City Hall will perform in front of two schools: the Rosa Lobato Faria Elementary Schoolin São Vicente, and António Arroio Art Schoolin Penha de França.
The interventions will be carried out in the same logic as the The Street Is YoursThis will be done by installing beacons and painting the asphalt. At António Arroio a space currently occupied by cars will be pedestrianized in front of the school and bicycle racks will be installed. In Rosa Lobato Farias the interventions will be similar. Pockets will also be created for passengers to pick up and drop off in order to avoid second-row stops and traffic flow.
"The works will improve access and create conditions for greater social distancing near schools, paving the way for a new perspective on the use of public space. They also aim to create safe paths, and the choice of more sustainable modes of travel to school.", refers the Lisbon City Hall.
