Bolt, an operator that offers scooters for rent in Lisbon and also a cab service, will expand its offer with the launch of shared electric bicycles in Lisbon. "With the bet on the new service, the Portuguese capital now has all the mobility options offered by Bolt, including the ride-hailing service for long distances and shared scooters and bicycles for short distances"reads a press release.

The price of the new electric bicycles is 0.10 per minute and does not include unlocking fee. To use these Bolt bikes, users need to download the Bolt application (available for Android e iOS), select the service icon, and finally unlock a bike by scanning its QR code.

Bolt will provide in the app usage tips, local traffic rules and safety recommendations related to the pandemic. New users will also be able to rely, through the app, on a tool for limit the maximum speed of bicycles (which usually cannot exceed 25 km/h) to make them more comfortable about this for the first few trips.

Bolt electric bikes will be distributed equally in the center and outlying areas of the city, increasing its coverage area for both bicycles and electric scooters. The company launches its service in Lisbon with more than 250 electric bicycles, and plans to add more vehicles in the coming months. Bolt's bikes feature replaceable batteries, allowing you to have simpler logistics for electric charging of the bikes compared to that of scooters (which have to be picked up to be charged).

Lisbon is the fourth city where Bolt is launching its shared electric bike service. Earlier this summer, the company launched its bikes in Paris and more recently in Barcelona and Prague. With this launch, the Portuguese capital becomes the first city where Bolt will make available all mobility services in its portfolio, such as ride-hailing, scooters, and electric bicycles. Bolt has more than 30 million users in over 35 countries in Europe and Africa.
