
Nine months after the process was halted because of an injunction, Metro de Lisboa is finally going ahead with the purchase of the 14 triple units and the new signaling system. The contract with the supplier - the grouping formed by Siemens and Stadler- had been celebrated in Februarybut a legal challenge by the group that lost the tender - made up of Thales and CRRC Tangshan - has been filed. put everything in "codfish water".
In press releaseThe Metro explains that Thales and CRRC Tangshan have withdrawn from the legal proceedings and that the company has therefore received the green light from the Lisbon Administrative Court to proceed with the contract. The carrier states that "contested in due course the lawsuits brought against it, considering that they were unfounded and that there was no illegality in the tender in question".
Therefore, the Metro "will immediately follow up on the contract, signed on February 8, for the acquisition of a new rail signaling system and the purchase of 14 new triple units". The total investment of 114.5 million euros will enable "improving the supply of trains and services" of the Lisbon Metro and guarantee "an increase in the frequency and regularity of the public transport service provided".
Despite the legal impasse, the first triple unit should still be delivered in the second half of 2022 and the last unit is expected to arrive at the end of 2023.
