Lisbon City Council's bicycle purchase support program, which started in August and has a plafond totaling around three million euros for 2020, will accept applications from people who buy new two-wheeled vehicles at least until the end of the year. In a statement, the municipality says that it has already supported the purchase of 2,709 bicycles worth 512,000 euros, having received a total of 3,643 applications.
"Between August 3rd and December 2nd, 3,643 applications were submitted, resulting in 2,709 bikes already receiving support, to the value of 511,705.00 euros. Several applications are still being analyzed by the services and should be completed by the end of the year", informs the Lisbon City Council. In other words, so far only one sixth of the total amount in euros that the municipality has set aside for these incentives has been delivered.
The application submission platform, available at pedala.lisboa.ptThe scheme is no longer available, but will reopen at a later date in 2021 to allow people who buy bicycles by December 31, 2020 to also apply for the incentives. Applicants who meet all the requirements will receive a variable amount depending on the type and value of the bicycle, as long as the purchase is made in one of the participating stores.
The council is supporting conventional bikes, electric bikes, cargo bikes and even adapted bikes - conventional or electric. The municipality finances 50% of the value of conventional bicycles up to a limit of 100 euros, 50% of the value of electric bicycles up to a limit of 350 euros, 50% of the value of cargo bicycles up to a limit of 500 euros and 75% of the value of adapted bicycles up to a limit of 200 euros.
