A different way to mark bike lanes

In recent years, rubber bollards have become commonplace in Lisbon's urban landscape as a primary form of bike lane delimitation. However, a different way of separating the cycling traffic from the rest has begun to be tested.

On Park of Nationsin the extension of the Alameda dos Oceanos bike path to the north a type of separator known as Zicla, marketed by a company with the same name, was used. These Zicla are modular and can thus be installed continuously or discontinuously, in groups or isolated. Made of recycled plastic, according to the company's websiteZicla protects cyclists and prevents the bike lane from being easily invaded by other vehicles - they are resistant and retroreflective.

Zicla should be the adopted solution in the bicycle path of Avenida Almirante Reiswhen it is reconverted, which is planned for the beginning of 2021.
