After some work without warning or alternative, which left the Avenida do Brasil cycle path impassable, it is now operational again. The cycle path has a new carpet along most of its length and painting has already been completed on some sections.
In mid-November, a intervention "as a matter of urgency" the repair of a gas pipe, carried out by the company Lisboagás, forced the floor of several sections of the bike path to be lifted sequentially and the sidewalk. For at least two months, the bike path on Avenida do Brasil, one of the most important in the city as it connects the Campo Grande/Alvalade area to Olivais and the eastern part of the city, was almost impassable.
Despite the urgency of the work, no alternative has been created for bicycle commuters in the city, something that could have been done by quickly and improvised cutting through one of the traffic lanes right next to it - as recently happened on the work on the new Campo Grande bus terminalfor example. The Avenida do Brasil cycle path is an important axis in the parish of Alvalade and connects two parts of the city.
The bike lane on Avenida do Brasil now has a new surface (resolving some of the minor imperfections of the previous one) and has already been painted green. The painting hasn't been completed yet, but the bike path is already passable - there are only a few meters (which can be easily bypassed) without a new surface. No changes have been made to the layout, so the bus stop areas will continue to be areas of conflict. These corrections may come at a later stage.
