
The Doca da Marinha opened to the public this weekend. A new pedestrianized public space on the banks of the River Tagus for anyone to enjoy. The promenade continues past Ribeira das Naus and Terreiro do Paço, overlooks the renovated Campo das Cebolas and continues to near Santa Apolónia station through the refurbished public space created around the Cruise Terminal. So there's a whole new waterfront to enjoy.
Still without shade because the trees will need time to grow, the space that previously had no public use has been redeveloped with several seating areas. A set of lounger-shaped benches allows you to enjoy the river, while several dark grey boxes with colorful accents are intended for cafés and terraces. Three of these terraces are concessioned to the BananaCafé company, according to Público.

The Marina Dock, previously used only by the Navy, will be a recreational river dockwhere a series of traditional boats, as well as the iconic ship CreoleThey will be able to take visitors to see the Tagus River and the city from a different perspective.
The renovation of the Doca da Marinha was carried out by the architect Carrilho da Graça, who also designed the Cruise Terminal and Campo das Cebolas next door. The project was developed in conjunction with the redevelopment of the old Sul e Sueste Station and its surroundings.

The recovery of former South and Southeast Station allows all maritime tourism activities and their operators to be housed in this space. The public space around it was designed by Bruno Soaresauthor of the rehabilitation of Praça do Comércio.

All the work brings the river closer to the city, boosts Lisbon's tourist value and also serves those who use public transport between the two banks of the river on a daily basis, as they will benefit from a better quality public space. All that remains is the renovation of Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, where a central tree-lined corridor is to be created, similar to the one installed on Avenida 24 de Julho, in Cais do Sodré.
