In September 2017, a one-way bike path was completed along practically the entire Avenida Cidade de Praga. Missing was a final section of 350 meters to the Praça Francisco de Assis, Carnide's iconic traffic circle with the red structure. When in January 2019 this traffic circle was intervened with the introduction of cycling infrastructure, the missing section at Cidade de Praga was not done. The result: between the traffic circle and the avenue there has been an incomprehensible discontinuity for two and a half years. The problem has only just been solved.
The work will have been simple, as the missing connection was also simple to fix. The pavement was tarred to solve its imperfections and even had green paint applied on top of it. The signage appears well applied, with give way signs before pedestrian crossings and bus stops. In these, elevated platforms have been created where, at a bus stop, it is up to the cyclist to stop and wait for passengers to enter and exit. The same type of design had already been used in Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa and is also being applied in Alameda das Linhas de Torres.
A most treacherous situation may be, in the downhill direction, a cyclist crossing in a right-turning shortcut for drivers. It will all depend on the behavior of motorists, who will necessarily have to slow down and let a cyclist pass, because the cyclist has priority.
The bike path on Avenida Cidade de Praga, now ready, will connect to the bike path being built on Avenida Marechal Teixeira Rebelo, an avenue that is a kind of extension of the first one. There is still little visible work at this location, apart from some more fundamental changes to sidewalks and other structures. The bike path in Marechal Teixeira Rebelo will create a segregated and continuous connection between Telheiras, Carnide and Benfica, with a connection to the Lusíada Avenue Cycle path.
