
The Lisbon City Council (CML), with the help of the research center CERIS of the Instituto Superior Técnico and the Shifter X, created an informative brochure on the use of bicycles in the city of Lisbon, its growth over the last four years and the various initiatives taking place in the cityThese include the GIRA shared system, the municipal program to support the purchase of bicycles, the Bicycle Trains and the cycle shops.
The brochure, which can be downloaded from the CML website and this article (see below), takes an X-ray of cycling LisbonThe starting point is the CERIS annual counts of bicycle use in the city, as well as information available on the Lisboa Aberta platform, and data from EMEL and the Municipal Mobility Department.
Entitled "How Lisbon PedalsThe document deals with the growth in bicycle use in the city of Lisbon between 2017 and 2020, the evolution of the cycling network and the provision of parking for two wheels, shared systems such as GIRA, the municipality's program to support the purchase of bicycles, the special case of electric bicycles and cargo bikes, cycle shops, and the Bicycle Trains program, among other topics.
The brochure's structure and text were developed by Shifter X, a specialist content studio; the illustrations and final layout were the responsibility of the local authority's Brand and Communication Department. CML expects to publish new editions of this brochure with updated information. For now, this work serves as an assessment of the approach of yet another stage in the local government and also of the Velo-cityLisbon is hosting the biggest conference on bicycle mobility between September 6 and 9.
