
It is in summer that the sun reaches its maximum point in the arc of the sky, bringing greater light intensity and rising air temperatures. The 8th edition of Jardins Abertos, the festival that opens the gates to Lisbon's gardens, will be an unprecedented summer edition, inviting strolls and picnics under the cool shadows of the tree tops of the capital's gardens. The unprecedented summer edition of Open Gardens will take place over two consecutive weekends, on September 4/5 and 11/12.
Since 2017, the Jardins Abertos team, in co-organization with the Lisbon City Council and with the high patronage of the President of the Republic, promotes a free event with visits to unique gardens in the city and various gardening, sustainability and environmental awareness activities, stimulating a positive relationship with nature in an urban context. This project, which started timidly as a guided tour and 80 participants, has taken root and grown, counting more than 200 thousand participations in the last year.
In addition to the usual face-to-face and virtual format, the next edition of the festival promises to bring a daytime program and also an evening program, which will allow you to see Lisbon's gardens in a different light. Until later in the day, gardens such as the Garden of the Attorney General's Office, the Cold Greenhouse of Lisbon and the Garden of Estrelawhere a guided walk will take place in the evening. Warm nights bring the scent of flowers that open during darkness, intoxicating the air and signaling their presence to nocturnal pollinators.

After the success of the last editions, the Verdes Balconies initiative is back to transform Lisbon's building facades into veritable gardens. A call is open for communities of neighbors who share an interest in gardening and want to flower their balconies. completely free, thanks to the support of Planta Livre.
In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the model for visiting the gardens and participating in the activities will comply with all the rules and guidelines of the Directorate-General for Healthin force at the time of the festival. Because nature continues to present us with its beauty, and we do not want it to pass us by, the Open Gardens team invites everyone to participate safely. This is an entirely free event.
