Thus, the Navegante will be both a fare and a transportation card.

As of today, there is a new card for riding public transportation in Lisbon. The Lisboa Viva brand, that until now appeared on cards and other communication supports, is disappearing to give way to Navegante. The name, which was already used for the single public transportation pass, will also be used for the physical card on which it will be possible to load this pass, use Zapping, or associate the Viva Go modality.
The Brand Navigator is one of three new brands that make up the future of public transportation in the 18 municipalities of the Lisbon Metropolitan Areatogether with the brands Metropolitan Railway e Lisbon Metropolitan Transports (TML). The latter functions as the mother brand of the other two. "TML's Navegante brand aims to be the reference brand for the passenger"a statement from TML sent to the newsroom on Wednesday read.
Thus, the Navegante will be both a fare and a transportation card. There will be two types of cards, as is already the case today: o HARD CARDwhich is mainly used for the pass and is now available at all the ticket offices and automatic machines where the "old" Lisboa Viva could be purchased; and the soft" cardwhich will only be available in the next few weeks, since the current stock needs to be used up. If you have a Lisboa Viva card, it will remain active until the end of its validity, and you don't need to do anything.

The "hard" card will be known as Custom Navigator because it has the passenger's photo and name, and is intended for more regular use; it allows you to load passes and prepaid and postpaid tariffs. The "soft" card will have the name Occasional Navigator and is intended for occasional use, allowing the loading of travel tickets and prepaid tariffs. The Navegante tariff, on the other hand, is composed of six modes:
- Navegante Municipal - 30€
- Navegante Municipal Family - 60€
- Metropolitan Navigator - 40€
- Navegante Metropolitan Family - 80€
- Navigator 12 years - 0€
- Navigator +65 - 20 €
TML is testing a new machine to issue the pass, which will replace the previous model that can be found, for example, in the Alameda Metro station. The new equipment, which is being shown at Velo-city, is prepared for contactless cards, people with reduced mobility and color-blind people.

"Navegante now becomes a card and a title for everything and everyone, simplifying the language and communication for those who intend to travel"TML says in the same press release. “The new image of the card intends to be a continuation of the TML brand signature, with clear identification of the lines that trace the passenger's path on the trips they make, with the passenger being the point, the center of the operation."
Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) is the municipal company of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (AML) responsible for the management of the metropolitan ticketing system and the guarantor of intermodality and interoperability of the transport ecosystem covering the 18 municipalities of the AML. With the brand Carris Metropolitana, TML will become the transport authority for public road passenger transport services operated in 15 of the 18 municipalities in the metropolitan area (Lisbon, Cascais and Barreiro are not included).
