The CLIMA.AML network has 18 stations, one in each municipality, and data will be made available in a free and open online platform.

The Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) now has 18 weather stations, spread across 18 municipalities, in order to monitor the climate and its changes. "The collection and availability of meteorological data on a metropolitan scale will make it possible to monitor the evolution of the impacts and events resulting from climate change on local communities"The AML (which, in addition to being a geographical area, is an administrative entity) said in a statement.
The 18 stations are being installed over the course of these weeks, one in each of the 18 AML municipalities, and will measure in real time temperature, precipitation, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, wind direction, solar radiation and ultraviolet radiation. These weather stations are the result of the CLIMA.AML - Metropolitan Weather Monitoring and Alert NetworkThe aim of the project is to create an integrated solution for meteorological monitoring in an urban context and on a metropolitan scale.

Through this project, promoted by the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and its municipalities, all the essential data and information supporting the monitoring and evaluation of meteorological data will be analyzed. The network - made up of 18 stations, nine urban measurement microsensors and an online platform for making meteorological data available openly and freely - will work in complementarity with the network of stations of the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA). At the same time, AML intends to integrate the existing weather stations in the municipalities, namely in Cascais, Sintra and Mafra, into this new network CLIMA.AMLIt also centralizes information.
The Project CLIMA.AML - Metropolitan Weather Monitoring and Alert Network, which continues the Metropolitan Plan of Adaptation to Climate Change of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbonand is co-financed to the tune of 85% by the EEA Grants 2014-2021The overall budget is 193 thousand euros. O CLIMA.AML has been implemented in AML since March this year and will run until the end of the first half of 2023.
