"Today we are going through a historic moment - in the face of the climate emergency, air pollution that seriously affects the populations exposed to it, and the urgency of reducing dependence on fossil fuels - in which drastic changes are needed in the way we use the city of Lisbon and move around in it."

Considering these challenges, MUBi - Associação pela Mobilidade Urbana em Bicicleta (Association for Urban Bicycle Mobility) has identified a set of priority measures to be implemented in the city of Lisbon.

These recommendations are endorsed by 11 organizations promoting a safer and more accessible environment, mobility and cities for all: ACAM - Associação de Cidadãos Auto-Mobilizados, ANP|WWF - Associação Natureza Portugal, APSI - Associação Para a Promoção da Segurança Infantil, Bicicultura, Caracol POP, Cicloda, Estrada Viva, GEOTA - Grupo de Estudos de Ordenamento do Território e Ambiente, Mulheres na Arquitectura, QUERCUS and ZERO - Associação Sistema Terrestre Sustentável..

The document Lisbon: For a Living and Accessible City define "four fundamental axes to move from words to action and build an increasingly accessible city for those who move around, work and want to enjoy it"1) Planning for the future; 2) Protecting everyday life; 3) Designing for everyone; 4) Activating mobility.

These axes translate into 34 measures to be implemented "so that we can progressively have a city that is more humane, safe, decarbonized, sustainable and better prepared to face present and future challenges"MUBi said in a statement. Assuming this urgency to take action, the association "It also intends to influence and collaborate in the planning and policies of urbanism and mobility in the city of Lisbon, suggesting a city model that, with the necessary adaptations, could be useful for other cities in the country.".

Inês Pascoal, president of MUBi, recalls that "these recommendations become even more relevant at a time when Lisbon is one of the three Portuguese cities chosen to be part of the European Union's 100 cities with a climate-neutral impact by 2030 mission"With the living and accessible city being the main focus of the document, it stresses that "accessibility is a fundamental condition for a fair, sustainable, stimulating city where resources are used efficiently, promoting a healthy urban environment".
