To the passengers, Carris was restrained in the information provided: the company limited itself to report on Monday, May 16, that the elevator was "temporarily immobilized" and that it appreciated the passengers' understanding, but did not offer any explanation or expectation of when the situation might be resolved. He also did not recommend an alternative.
The Lavra Elevator complements the Elevador da Glória, connecting the low level (Restauradores area) to the high level - if the Glória elevator allows you to reach the Bairro Alto/São Pedro de Alcântara/Príncipe Real hill, the Lavra elevator reaches the opposite hill, the one that connects to Campo Mártires da Pátria and São José Hospital. To go from the Bairro Alto area to Campo Mártires da Pátria, the two elevators are very useful. Without one of these equipments, the only public transportation that directly connects the two hills is a Bairro Car, the 19B.
Clear and as complete information as possible to the passengers is fundamental to establish with them a relationship of trust and empathy, which is important when something fails. The suspension of a particular line or stop will impact the mobility of several people who will use that service on a daily basis; those passengers deserve more information when service is suspended, to have a forecast of when it might be reinstated (even if it is uncertain), and to know what alternatives you might use in the meantime.
Lisboa Para Pessoas contacted Carris that informed that the Lavra's elevator stop was due to "to the fall of plaster from the existing wall last May 15, due to a decoration work in one of the adjacent buildings. From the visit to the site by Carris technicians, it was found that the safety conditions necessary for the operation of the elevator were not met".. Carris contacted the contractor "in the sense of having the anomaly resolved" with "repairing the weakened areas" of the wall. "It should be noted that, structurally, there is no damage to the wall"The operator also informs us.
O Lavra Elevator It is open every weekday between 7am and 8:30pm, and on weekends and holidays between 9am and 7:55pm. As for the Glória Elevator It operates between 7:15am and 11:55pm on weekdays, Saturdays between 8:45am and 11:55pm, and Sundays between 9:15am and 11:55pm.
