The Cidade Universitária Metro station is now accessible with the installation of three elevatorsThe station is also equipped with a new bridge, which provides a connection between the surface and the station concourse, and between the concourse and the boarding piers, providing the site with full accessibility and allowing access for customers with reduced mobility.

The outdoor elevator is located on Avenida Professor Gama Pinto, opposite the University of Lisbon's "Cantina Velha". This elevator provides access to the station concourse, where tickets are validated. After the control line, there are two connecting elevators between the concourse and each of the boarding piers.

With an investment of €1,472,668.30, the intervention at Cidade Universitária station also included the elimination of all architectural barriers by adapting stairwells to ramps and toilet facilities for people with reduced mobility.

The work at Cidade Universitária is part of a global contract that also involved the Entrecampos station (recently made fully accessible) which was awarded to the Domingos da Silva Teixeira, SA/Efacec Group consortium in June 2021, for a total investment of 2.56 million euros.

The Lisbon Metro has been adapting old stations that were not originally designed with accessibility in mind. With the interventions at Entrecampos and Cidade Universitária stations completed this year, the Lisbon Metro now has 43 stations with full accessibility, which corresponds to 77% of all the stations on the network. The overall program will allow full accessibility to be extended to 54 stations on the network by 2025. At the moment, there is no new investment underway in the field of accessibility.
