Transportes Colectivos do Barreiro reduces fares on the opening day of Carris Metropolitana

A trip on Transportes Colectivos do Barreiro (TCB) now costs 1.25 € if purchased on board or 1.10 € if purchased in advance. The zapping mode remains the same: 1.35 €/ride.

This Wednesday, Carris Metropolitana will make its debut in six municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, but in one of them, Barreiro, the operation will only be intercity. A TCB - Barreiro's Collective Transports will continue to operate within the municipality, but now with lower fares. The on-board ticket drops from €1.60 to €1.25, but if you buy the trip in advance it will cost you €1.10.

FareBeforeAfter
On-board ticket (1 trip)1,60 €1,25 €
Pre-purchased ticket (1 trip) *1,25 €1,10 €
Ticket zapping (1 trip)1,35 €1,35 €
1-day ticket (unlimited travel)3,25 €3,25 €
Weekend ticket (unlimited travel)4,20 €4,20 €

The on-board ticket is the one you buy from the driver and you don't need to have a Navegante card. For pre-purchased tickets or zappingyou need a Navegante card - in the case of the zappingYou can use the same "hard" card as the pass and you only need to make a minimum charge of three euros; in the case of single journeys, you need to have the "soft" Navegante card.

TCB offers discounts for pre-purchased trips. If you buy 10 trips in one go, you get 1 free trip (that's €11). If you buy 15 rides, you get 2 free rides (that's €15.40) and if you buy 19 rides, you get 3 free rides (that's €18.70). These discounts are also new to the tariff (they didn't exist previously) and are only available for pre-purchased tickets - they don't exist for on-board tickets or zapping.

With the new fares, TCB is responding to Carris Metropolitana (CM), which made its debut in six municipalities on the South Bank on June 1st. For urban journeys, CM offers an on-board fare of €1.25, the same as the one TCB has now launched. With the zapping (which CM calls "Navegante Pré-Pago"), an urban trip costs €0.85. At CM, there is no possibility of buying pre-purchased tickets for 1, 2, 3... journeys.

TCB has 20 lines on offer, two of which are night services and three of which are weekend services. There is also a bike-sharing system, TCBikes, which has been suspended and which used to be free for road transport users (with the Navegante pass, for example), working as a complement to it.

TCB has a mobile app (iOS/Android) with real-time schedules. In the application Citymapper you can also access the details of this road service.

Lisboa Para Pessoas has contacted TCB for some clarification on the absence of information about its buses on Google Maps or the suspension of TCBikes, and is awaiting a reply. We will update this article as soon as it makes sense.
