Carris has a new line ready to launch in 2023, which intends to "provide a direct connection" between Colégio Militar and Lumiar. Startup is dependent on work on a street.

Carris is preparing to launch a new bus route next year. The future 763 will "provide a direct connection between the Military College and the Lumiarthrough the Padre Cruz Neighborhood, Quinta do Olival e Quinta dos Alcoutins. The release of the 763 will entail an adjustment to the 768, which covers some of that territory.

The information was provided to Lisboa Para Pessoas by Carris, after some people reported references to the future route at some bus stops. The indication of the 763 will already be there, but covered with a yellow tape.

The new Carris connection will "articulate" the Military School transport interface with Lumiar, circulating through another important interface, that of Pontinha, through Bairro Padre Cruz, through Carnide Cemetery, through Quinta do Olival and Quinta dos Alcoutins urbanizations (passing by Valor Sul recycling center), through Rua Formosinho Sanches and, finally, through Calçada de Carriche. "The maximum frequency is expected to be in the order of three runs per hour with departure/passing intervals of about 20 minutes"Carris informs Lisboa Para Pessoas.

Current 768 (via Carris)

According to the municipal operator, the The launch of the 763 is planned for 2023, depending on the "availability of buses and drivers"and the "repaving of Formosinho Sanches Streetin Quinta dos Alcoutins. "Simultaneously, with the launch of the new service, an adjustment will be made to the 768 career, in order to eliminate some of its overlap with the new career."says Carris. Carris' 768 currently connects Cidade Universitária to Lumiar, with an indirect route that passes through Sete Rios, Colégio Militar (Estrada da Luz), Pontinha, Bairro Padre Cruz, Cemitério de Carnide and ends at Quinta dos Alcoutins.

Connect to the Airport?

About a possible extension of the 763 between Lumiar and the AirportCarris informs that this is not planned for the time being and states that "can only be substantiated after a first phase of operation of the service, by cross-analysis of several factors that are currently not available". Carris points to the evolution of the dynamics of displacements in the city, the adhesion to the new service, adjustments that are made in other services of Carris, evolutions in the offer of Metro and CP, and also "possible changes in the current modal split as a consequence of the measures being taken for mobility in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area" as some of these factors.

What is certain is that there is currently no direct connection between the Lumiar (or Carnide) area and the airport, despite the geographical proximity of the equipment to this densely residential area of the city. The Metro already reaches the airport, but you have to take the Green Line in Telheiras or Campo Grande, go to Alameda, change there for the Red Line and go back to the airport, a trip that can take 40-45 minutes. By bus or by combining the subway with the bus, it is possible to make this trip in less time - about 25-30 minutes - but this option always implies a transfer. In practical terms, it is possible to take the 767 and change to the 783 at Avenida do Brasil; or take the Green Line to Areeiro and take the 705 or 722 there.

Carris explains to Lisboa Para Pessoas that its service is based on "network concept and modal complementarity with the remaining modes of transport present in the city of Lisbon". and that "resource limitations do not allow us to establish direct connections between all origin/destination pairs in the city of Lisbon". What's more, says the operator, "the current fare system is flexible and allows the possibility of transfers without penalty, either within the Carris network or with the Metro and urban CP".
