After a long break due to technical problems, which have now been overcomeEMEL is once again opening new GIRA stations in the city of Lisbon: there are now seven more departure and destination points for GIRA journeys, including the first station in Campo de Ourique and also the Colombo Shopping Center station.

The seven open stations are these:

  • 364 - Rua Dom Francisco Manuel de Melo / Rua Artilharia 1 (in Avenidas Novas)
  • 510 - Largo da Revista Militar / Avenida do Colégio Militar (in Benfica)
  • 352 - Rua Tomás da Anunciação / Rua Almeida e Sousa (in Campo de Ourique)
  • 363 - Rua de Campolide / Rua Marquês da Fronteira (in Campolide)
  • 517 - Rua Padre Américo (in Carnide)
  • 518 - Avenida das Nações Unidas / Azinhaga da Torre do Fato (in Carnide)
  • 519 - Rua Professor Pulido Valente / Rua Professor Mário Chicó (in Lumiar)

With these stations, it will be possible to cycle, for example, to the Colombo Shopping Centerwith the 510 station. This station, the first to open in Benfica, also provides an easy connection from the Metro Blue Line to the Green Line in Telheiras. Stations 517 and 518, in Carnide, reinforce the GIRA network in a densely populated neighborhood; 518 directly serves the Telheiras Shopping Center (but you have to cross the crosswalk, which is now half as long for pedestrians). The 519, in Lumiar, serves EB 2,3 in Telheiras.

The 352 is the first station to open in Campo de Ourique, a parish without a Metro, for example. The 363 is in the new Praça de Campolide and reinforces the network in this parish. Finally, 364, in the parish of Avenidas Novas, is another station in the Rua Castilho area.

Lisbon now has 130 GIRA stations in operation, representing around 2,499 bicycle docks. Currently, around 1,600 bikes from the public bike-sharing network "GIRAm" in the city. GIRA have already cycled more than 12 million kilometers, in more than 6 million trips made in the city of Lisbon.
