One million euros for 20 projects to make mobility more accessible and inclusive in Lisbon

In the VoxPop project, digital solutions are sought to make mobility more accessible and inclusive in Lisbon, responding to the needs of disabled people, elderly population, children, pregnant women, etc.

Find and financially support 20 digital solutions that improve the accessibility and safety of vulnerable groups in their mobility in the public space of Lisbon is a major goal of open call that EMEL and CML are launching. In total, there is one million euros, and each project can receive up to 60 thousand euros.

A open call is being launched as part of the VoxPop innovation projectcoordinated by CML and EMEL, is aimed at small companies, non-profit associations, educational institutions and other entities, and aims to find digital solutions that make mobility more accessible and inclusive in Lisbon, responding to the needs of disabled people, elderly population, children, pregnant women, etc. Specifically:

  • Wanted: 20 innovative projectswho will be supported individually up to 60 thousand eurosfor a total of one million euros;
  • these projects should consist of "open source digital solutions that address mobility challenges of the most vulnerable communities in the city of Lisbon"Such as people with disabilities, the elderly, children, pregnant women, etc;
  • the goal is "improve accessibility and safety for people or any vulnerable group who have their mobility experience restricted" in the city and contribute to "a more accessible and inclusive mobility ecosystem in Lisbon".
  • the financial support will serve to respond to costs for development, adaptation and testing in operational environment of the solutions;
  • can participate: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Higher Education Institutions and Research Centers.

These are the general challenges that this open call intends to answer:

  1. travel planning: enable reliable, easy and immediate route planning through, for example, real-time identification of accessibility barriers; access to verified information about the accessibility conditions of public spaces (transport, services and venues);
  2. autonomous navigation: support people with visual, hearing, cognitive, or physical disabilities to move around the city in public space with greater ease, confidence, and autonomy;
  3. inclusive ticketing services: provide more accessible ticketing services (e.g. buying, loading and validating tickets) for people with visual, hearing, cognitive or physical disabilities;
  4. promoting safer mobility: promote safer travel in the city for all people;
  5. full enjoyment of public spaces: to promote that people with sensory disabilities can fully enjoy the city's various public spaces (e.g. gardens, parks, squares, etc.);
  6. community solutions for a more inclusive mobility: promote and facilitate community intervention to address mobility challenges.

A open call will be launched on August 10thwith an event online which will start at 9:30am. You can register for this event and also be notified of future news in the form that can be found in at the bottom of this page. Once launched, the open call will allow two months for applications, followed by two months for the selection of the 20 chosen projects. These will have six months to develop, after which a demonstration day will be held.

VoxPop is a partnership of eight public and private national entities, led by CML and with operational management by EMEL. With the objective of developing a more collaborative model of mobility management in the city of Lisbon, supported by digital tools for a more efficient planning, operation and maintenance of the transport infrastructure, and which enhance the creation of user-centered mobility solutions.

The VoxPop project is co-financed by the Initiative Innovative Urban Actionsa program promoted by the European Commission that aims to finance ambitious and innovative solutions to meet the challenges of cities. The project also brings together Carris, Lisbon Metro and Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML).
