The circulation on the Lisbon Metro Blue Line will be interrupted on the stretch between Jardim Zoológico and Parque stations, from August 11th to 15th. The circulation on this line, during this period, will be between Reboleira and Laranjeiras stations, and between Marquês de Pombal and Santa Apolónia.

This interruption in the section between Jardim Zoológico (Sete Rios) and Parque stations is due to improvement works on the railroad that imply, for safety reasons, the closure of the operation to the public in the section where the works will take place.

Thus, the Jardim Zoológico, Praça de Espanha, São Sebastião, and Parque stations will be closed from August 11 to 15. The São Sebastião station remains in operation on the Red Line.

Until the restoration of normal circulation on the Blue line, Metro de Lisboa recommends the use, as an alternative, of Carris lines 746 (between Marquês de Pombal and Damaia) and 726 (between Sapadores and Pontinha). The Blue line will resume full circulation at 06:30 on August 16.

During the interruption period, the service stations (sales and Navegante) at Jardim Zoológico station are closed. To collect Navegante cards at this station, clients must go to Marquês de Pombal station and go to the Urgent Card station. For issues related to the Navegante station, it will be necessary to use the other Navegante posts at Entre Campos (Yellow line) and Alameda (Red line) stations.

About the intervention

At stake is an intervention to improve the Blue Line railway track between the Praça de Espanha and São Sebastião stations. The following infrastructure will be rehabilitated:

  • Change from ballast track (crushed stone) to concrete track in part of the section, between Praça de Espanha and S. Sebastião stations;
  • Replacement of the track device (needle) that allows the trains to be steered.

What are the benefits of this work? According to Metro de Lisboa, this intervention will allow for significant gains in terms of the reliability of the train service on the Blue Line. After the conclusion of the work (foreseen for December 2022), the current circulation conditioning in this zone of the section will be removed.
