Lisbon Metro makes "elevator status" available in real time

Now you can find out whether the elevator at that station is working or not, so you can better plan your trip.

For many people, a trip on the Lisbon Metro is not possible without an elevator. Whether because they are carrying a heavy load or especially because they have reduced mobility, many passengers depend on these infrastructures for their travel. When an elevator at a particular station is broken, some people cannot even begin or complete their journey and are left stranded, forced to find an alternative station or, if they can, to ask someone for help.

To assist in trip planning, the Lisbon Metro now provides the "elevator status on your siteby letting your passengers know which station's elevators are inoperative. "Being still in the testing phase, this feature may have some bugs and minor issues that will be fixed and/or improved before the final version of this feature is released."the company reports.

The "elevator status" information is provided per Line, and at the date and time of this article there are 10 elevators out of service in the entire Lisbon Metro network. With this information available online, a person planning to get off at Ameixoeira station on the Yellow Line may opt to go to Lumiar station instead, since the elevator that allows one to go from the station lobby to the outside (and vice-versa) is out of order.

Metro de Lisboa is available to accept improvements from passengers regarding this new site functionality by e-mail comunicacao.digital@metrolisboa.pt. For now, this tool only indicates information about elevators, not escalators.
