The school period is the new big challenge for Carris Metropolitana, which until now has only operated during vacations and summer.

It is a new stage in the metropolitan public road transport service: the September 13, Carris Metropolitana puts aside the summer timetables that have been in effect since the beginning of its operation in the South Bank and adopts a reinforced offer, with more timetables and changes in several lines.
The new timetables and offer only come into effect on September 13th, but Carris Metropolitana has already made all the changes available on its site. To assist passengers in this change for the back-to-school period, dedicated contact channels are available; through them, it is possible to obtain information about schedules, routes, and schools served, but also make suggestions for improvements that you consider important to better serve the AML school network.
These are some of the changes that will be made, according to a survey done by Lisbon Community for People:
- 3013 - this line that today runs from Cacilhas to Monte da Caparica has its route readjusted, which is now the same as that of TST's old line 103
- 3009, 3014, 3032 e 3034 - passes through Monte da Caparica to serve the secondary school of the same name
- 3010 - will become a variant of 3012 and will leave the A33, with the same route as the previous 127;
- 3012 - will no longer pass through the A33, they will have the same route as the previous 127 of the TST;
- 3030, 3507 e 3524- will no longer circulate through Mata dos Medos and will circulate through the middle of Charneca da Caparica, with the same or similar route to the previous 145/130
- 3010, 3035 e 3036 - are extinct. The 3010 connected Cacilhas to Charneca da Caparica; the 3035 traveled between Pragal and Quinta do Texugo; and the 3036 between Pragal and Vale das Flores.
- 3040, 3041 e 3504 - come into service. They were the old TST lines 123, 133 and 197, respectively. The 3040 will circulate between Cacilhas and Quinta do Texugo; the 3041 will connect Cacilhas to Caparica; and the 3504 will have a route between Bairro Fundo Fomento and Quintinhas.
- 4630 e 4631 - are extinct and will become the new 4730, which will have connections between Setúbal Transport Interface (ITS) and Sete Rios, in Lisbon, and shortenings to Fogueteiro railway station in some timetables.
- 4632 - new line that will connect Coina station to Quina do Anjo, with a route that promises to offer redundancy to the 3626 line.

Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML), responsible for the entire operation of Carris Metropolitana, refers to although will only update the information on the website and mobile applications like CityMapper and Moovit to the new offer after September 13The current offer will remain available until then. However, the updated schedules should appear first on Moovit.
Carris Metropolitana started operating on June 1st in Area 4 (Alcochete, Barreiro, Moita, Montijo, Palmela and Setúbal) and on July 1st in Area 3 (Almada, Seixal and Sesimbra). In Area 4, the service is operated on the ground under a sub-concession regime by the private company Alsa Todi, which has been severely criticized and accused of not fulfilling the service contract; in Area 3, the operation is ensured by the company TST, which has been better able to ensure the service contracted to it. In the North Bank, the start-up of Carris Metropolitana was postponed to January 1, 2023.
