The interior of the station remains, for now, the same, but it is planned to be renovated and elevators will be installed.

Two and a half years later, the south atrium of the Praça de España metro station has reopenedIt is now part of the new Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Urban Park. Although the interior of the atrium has been kept, its two exits to the outside have been readjusted to the new context of Praça de Espanha, with a new exterior arrangement.
The exits now lead to a large pedestrian square, incorporated into the new Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Urban Park and where, in the future, there should be a cafeteria and terrace. There are also plans to connect this square to the Gulbenkian via a pedestrian bridge; this infrastructure should have been ready in 2021, but its construction is delayed and the future is uncertain.

One of the exits from the south concourse of the Praça de Espanha station was slightly relocated to adapt to the new configuration of the public space on the surfacethe other was kept in its original location and only the outside staircase was renovated.

The Lisbon Metro has planned an upgrade of the entire Praça de Espanha Metro station not only for "its integration into the landscape of the new surface layout" of the new Urban Park, but mainly for the provide accessibility features that do not exist today, namely elevator accessmaking the Plaza de España accessible to people with reduced mobility (like Diogo).
The Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Urban Park, also known as the Praça de Espanha Urban Park, gradually opened to the public in June 2021. It is now possible to visit all of its spaces, with the exception of the future cafeteria, the only part still under construction (the concessionaire is in charge). The Praça de Espanha project is finished and already in the hands of Lisbon City Council. We'll be publishing more about this work soon.
