A dangerous situation for pedestrian mobility had been going on for several years.

Once an area of traffic and car parking, the Campo Pequeno Square as we know it today - with a large pedestrian area and landscaped gardens - was the result of a renovation that took place between 2000 and 2006. A commercial gallery was created under the building historically associated with bullfighting - and which has been transformed into a cultural space - with a cinema, restaurants, direct connection to the Metro, and parking. Thanks to this redevelopment, Campo Pequeno Square has become, on the surface, one of the widest and most pleasant pedestrian squares in the city of Lisbon.

However, in recent years, the square has been presenting a danger for pedestrian mobility (and also cyclable, since there is even a GIRA station): the stone grids protecting the rainwater drainage areas (gutters) were damaged and many of them had been temporarily replaced with wooden planks, which had also been broken in the meantime. Some of these stone structures had already been replaced by metal grids, which were more resistant, but, over time, the problem spread to parts of the square that still had the stone protections.

The problem is now being solved and hopefully for good. In a contract awarded by prior consultation by the Avenidas Novas Parish CouncilUnder the delegation of powers by the Lisbon City Council, new metallic grids are being placed around the Campo Pequeno Square, replacing the stone structures that still remained and which, despite being damaged, had the function of protecting the gutters. In this 143.1 thousand euro intervention, in charge of the company ObragoitoThe water drainage areas are being cleaned, new grates are being installed to replace the damaged ones, and the grates that are still in good condition are being relocated in the square.

Despite the complaints in the application On My Street and in the social networks, this situation took a while to be resolved. "We are talking about damage that is immense years old, I dare mention 10 or more years, which is unacceptable and unacceptable", wroteIn recent years, the broken grates have been replaced with wooden planks, some of which have broken, creating potholes that could be dangerous for people walking or cycling, and especially for people on the street. In recent years, the broken grates have been replaced by wooden planks, and some of them have broken, creating holes that could be dangerous for people on foot or by bike, and especially for people with reduced mobility.
