Closure will take place from April 7 to 10. Blue Line will only reopen on the 11th.

To continue the work of modernization of the signaling systemwhich will bring trains closer together and shorten waiting times, the Metro de Lisboa will close the entire Blue Line during the Easter weekend: from April 7th to 10th.
This is the first time the Lisbon Metro closes an entire Line for the execution of works. Until now, the carrier had only cut sections of Lines: in August 2022The Blue Line was interrupted for five days between Laranjeiras and Marquês de Pombal stations, which generated chaos in Sete Rios; in OctoberThe Yellow Line was cut for a week between Campo Grande and Entrecampos, already in January of this yearThe Blue Line was partially closed between the Pontinha and Praça de Espanha stations during one Sunday.
The work that will now be done is part of an important investment in the alteration of the signaling system currently existing on the Blue Line. A new train control system will be installed Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC)The new system, which is expected to be completed on this line by the end of the year, allows trains to be located more accurately, in theory bringing them closer together and shortening waiting times for passengers.
In this context, between April 7th (Friday) and April 10th (Monday), the circulation on the entire Blue Line will be interrupted. During this period, we recommend the use of alternative surface transport, namely Carris lines 726, 746, 759 and 767, which will be reinforced as has been the case. CP service may also be an option via the Sintra and Cintura lines for connections between Sintra and Rossio and between Sintra and Oriente, respectively. Through Fertagus, passengers coming from the South Bank can use Entrecampos and Roma-Areeiro stations to access other parts of the city through Lisbon Metro's Yellow and Green lines. Metro de Lisboa also signs the connections of Carris Metropolitana that correspond with some stations of CP, in Sintra and Cascais lines, making the connection to other points of the city.
The circulation on the Blue Line will be resumed as of 6:30 a.m. on April 11.

The Lisbon Metro network modernization project foresees an investment of 114.5 million euros in the new CBTC signaling system for the Blue, Green and Yellow lines, and also includes the acquisition of 14 new triple units (41 carriages), and the adaptation of 70 triple units to this new signaling system. The Red Line, the newest of all, already has the CBTC system.
