You can now park around Lisbon's Central Axis and pay with MB Way, without having to use change or install yet another app on your phone.

There are several ways to pay for parking in Lisbon: via mobile apps such as ePark or Via Verde Estacionar, or by putting coins in the parking meter and a ticket on the dashboard. Now there's another alternative: MB Way. It will be ideal for those who no longer carry change in their wallets or for those who don't have an app just for parking.
This week, EMEL made available the paying for parking with MB Way at selected parking meters along the city's central axis, between Campo Grande and Baixa. In partnership with Resopark and SIBS, users can now use the popular electronic payment service via cell phone. All parking meters with this new feature are duly marked with the MB Way logo.

This payment method is being implemented in stages with starting in the Avenidas Novas area, more specifically on Avenida da República and Avenida 5 de OutubroIt is expected that by the end of the year it will already cover a total of 400 parking meters along the Central Axis, in the areas of Alvalade, Areeiro, Arroios, Avenidas Novas, Estrela, Misericórdia, Santa Maria Maior and Santo António.
You can see the parking meters with MB Way on this interactive map, which will be updated as new equipment is integrated into this new system:
To pay with MB Way, simply select that option on the parking meter screen, choose the amount you want and scan the QR code with the MB Way app on your cell phone. Once you have authorized payment, all you have to do is confirm that everything went well, remove the parking permit and place it inside the car next to the windshield, in a clearly visible place.
Using MB Way to pay for parking is free of charge. Surface parking in Lisbon costs just 80 cents per hour in most of the city (green tariff), while the second most expensive tariff (brown tariff) applies on Avenida da República and Avenida 5 de Outubro, with a cost of €2/hour. The black tariff, the most expensive, costs €3/hour but has never been implemented since it was created in 2021. The brown and black zones are where there is the greatest imbalance between parking demand and supply, and the aim is to promote rotation.

According to Carlos Silva, president of the municipal company that manages parking in the city of Lisbon, "this is another step towards making payment at parking meters quicker and more convenient, and adds to the already existing ePark application to allow innovative payment alternatives". The President of EMEL also said in a statement that "this is an important step in the strategy of constant innovation for the city's mobility, which will make life easier for those who live, work or visit the city".
For Luís Gonçalves, head of SIBS, which owns MB Way, "With this partnership we are pursuing our mission of being the partner of reference in payments and creating value for society by developing and managing solutions that combine security, convenience and innovation, while respecting good behavioral principles and sustainability conditions"adding that "this partnership with EMEL reinforces our commitment to facilitating day-to-day and mobile payments".

In addition to MB Way, you can pay for parking meters with coins, with EMEL's ePark app, or with a series of third-party apps, which have the advantage of also being available in other national cities: Via Verde Estacionar, Telpark, paySimplex and Easypark.
