Contribute to quality news in Metropolitan Lisbon. This Christmas, contribute to LPP and help us prepare for 2024. We have several new features on the way.

The lack of information about the places where we live leads to shallow and superficial discussionsand contributing to the distancing of our civic role. This scenario is worrying given the numerous issues facing cities, such as adapting to climate change, the modal transition towards less dependence on the car, the housing crisis and the creation of more vibrant public spaces. Civic participation must start with information, community building and empowerment for action.
Despite being the most populous region in the country, with three million inhabitants, and at the same time a European metropolis, the Lisbon metropolitan area suffers from an insufficient supply of informationfrom a quantitative and qualitative point of view. In addition, the region faces a problem of disconnection from politics, evidenced by high abstention rates, with thousands of people feeling disconnected from governance processes and not knowing how their voices can be heard.
O Lisbon For People (or LPP) is a local newspaper and community portal about Metropolitan Lisbon that brings together useful information, a motivated community and tools for action. This editorial project of local journalism recognizes that information and literacy are fundamental for an equitable democracy and a healthy society. LPP seeks to establish itself as a reference in the dissemination of relevant information, often dispersed or difficult to access, about the Lisbon metropolitan area, with an emphasis on the capital. Its commitment lies in promoting discussions and empowering the community, boosting citizenship education and collective awareness.
The newspaper aims to accompany urban transformations and changes in the paradigms of mobility, housing and work. In addition, LPP takes on the responsibility of cultivating a metropolitan identityThe project is based in Lisbon, highlighting Lisbon as an extensive area, like a large metropolis, made up of 18 municipalities, where municipal boundaries are blurred and sometimes become imperceptible. The aim is to treat this territory as fluid and continuous.
The LPP began in 2021. After two years of experimentation and growth, in which LPP became the most read newspaper in the Lisbon metropolitan area, we are now looking to the future and a very challenging 2024. It's going to be a year in which we want to cement our sustainability modelThis is based, on the one hand, on subscriptions and donations from our readers, but also on a new and innovative Social Advertising program, aimed at associations, cooperatives and other entities in the social sector in Metropolitan Lisbon. And we still have several surprises on the way, which we'll announce next week.
For now, our challenge to our community is simple: help us prepare for next year by giving a gift this Christmas to the city and metropolitan area of Lisbon. Make a subscription to LPP or a donation, thus contributing to quality news in Metropolitan Lisbon. We're doing our bit: we work hard every day to deliver articles, stories, guides, tutors... We're two people doing it on precarious wages, because we're also investing out of our own pockets, committed to this project and its future.
But we need more people who believe as much as we do in this mission to contribute to a more informed, participatory and humane Metropolitan Lisbon.
Are we counting on you? You can subscribe here. Or make a donation here.
Happy holidays 💚
