The construction of the cyclopedestrian bridge over the Trancão River will begin, connecting the municipalities of Lisbon and Loures. In the future, it will be possible to walk or cycle to at least Vila Franca de Xira via a set of footbridges.

Crossing the River Trancão on foot or by bike will become possible next summer. The Lisbon City Council will start the construction of the cycle bridge over the Trancão River that will allow the connection between the municipalities of Lisbon and Loures. In the future, it will be possible to walk or cycle to at least Vila Franca de Xira via a set of walkways.
The bridge will cost around EUR 3 million and will include the extension of the cycle path that comes from Passeio dos Heróis do Mar. From here the cycle path will pass by the traffic circle at Praça Gago Coutinho and will then have a short section next to the River Trancão, at Rua da Cotovia, until it enters the cycle-pedestrian crossing. The contract, which began on September 13, has a duration of 10 months, so its completion is expected in June. July 2022.

"The project of this cycle path is part of a wider structure that is constituted by the network of cycle paths of the Lisbon Region", reads the descriptive memory. "This project will allow the marginal route along the Tagus River, which currently runs from Algés to Parque das Nações, to be extended to the Municipality of Loures and that, in the future, in a wider itinerary, the connection between Cascais and Vila Franca de Xira, with a total length of about 60 km.. This route will constitute a very important connecting structure, with a great variety of landscapes of natural and urban enjoyment along the Cascais-Lisbon waterfront and the Tagus River."
The creation of a new bridge on the Trancão is justified because "the various bridges, viaducts and overpasses upstream of the Trancão, over a not too long distance, consisting of several urban highways and links and two railway line bridges" do not allow the river to be crossed on foot or by bicycle near the west bank of the Tagus.
The cycle bridge will be suspended on four pillars founded on the river banks and will consist of a timber structure with steel reinforcement or connection elements. You can see below the drawing of the future Trancão crossing.

The Trancão cycle bridge will be the second such structure to be built in the city of Lisbon. In 2020, one was completed bridge also for pedestrians and bicycles on Calçada de Carriche which will connect two urban parks in the future. In the meantime, a cycle bridge on Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho.
