Agroforestry Beautiful Flower Breathesin Campolide, received the Jardins Abertos team for one of the pre-events to launch the fall edition. The festival, with a face-to-face and online edition, will take place on October 17/18, 24/25.
Bela Flor Respira is the first agro-forest in the city, with an educational and experimental nature, and will be part of the festival's program for the first time. It had the participation of residents and volunteers, who prepared the ground for the fall plantings. A unique space in the city, where we see, in harmony, the planting of food (such as tomatoes or cabbage) and ornamental plants. And so a community garden was born, which is also a forest.
Maria Júlia, one of the residents of the neighborhood, has been involved in the project since the beginning and started "out of curiosity". Gradually, he entered into what he considers a community project "beautiful". Today's visit from the open gardens team, "it is very good for pulling walks plus the neighbors participating". Pietro Romani, volunteer coordinator for the Open Gardens Festival explains that the agroforestry concept "involves food production and a common garden space, with no barriers, no fences. It's a space open to the whole community.".
"Today, we are going to help prepare the ground for the fall planting. We always develop these actions with the volunteers, because it allows a meeting of everyone, and the creation of a connection to the communities and the gardens that are part of the festival's programming."
The Festival's director, Tomás Tojo, explained that this edition brings some novelties, namely the inclusion of the Bela Flor Agro-forest. With a face-to-face edition and online, the Open Gardens have been inviting you, since 2017, to discover the gardens and ecosystems of the city of Lisbon.
