The Carris Metropolitana operation will start first in five municipalities south of the Tagus. The revolution in transports in the Lisbon metropolitan region will start in June in Alcochete, Moita, Montijo, Palmela and Setúbal. The remaining municipalities - with the exception of Barreiro, Lisbon and Cascais - only in July.

As of July 1st, all buses in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) will have the same yellow color, the same name, the same tickets and a jointly designed network. It will be the beginning of the full operation of Carris Metropolitana, an unparalleled revolution in the mobility of the Lisbon metropolitan area. But a month earlier Carris Metropolitana will start up in five municipalities that will serve as pilots.
As of June 1st, Carris Metropolitana will start operating in five municipalities of the south bank - in Alcochete, Moita, Montijo, Palmela and Setúbal, which represent the fourth batch of the operation of the future AML road transport brand. Carris Metropolitana will be operated, in this area, by the consortium of companies Alsa Todi, formed by NEX Continental and Transportes Luísa Todi, which will replace Transportes Sul do Tejo.
In this lot - the smallest of the four lots - Carris Metropolitana's operation will have 154 bus lines, of which 30 will be newwhich ones have not yet been revealed. But it is known that Carris Metropolitana will have urban lines, which will circulate within each city and municipality, and inter-municipal lines, to connect neighboring municipalities.

On the south bank, Carris Metropolitana will only not operate in Barreiro, since this municipality has its own municipal bus company - so TCB (Transportes Colectivos do Barreiro) will continue to exist and there will be Carris Metropolitana inter-municipal lines arriving at and from Barreiro. The same will happen in Lisbon and Cascais, where Carris and MobiCascais will continue to operate in articulation with the future Carris Metropolitana. The municipalities of Almada, Seixal and Sesimbra will only receive Carris Metropolitana in July, since they belong to lot 3.
Carris Metropolitana is giving continuity to "an unparalleled revolution in the mobility of the Lisbon metropolitan region, which aims to promote quality of life and a change in the modal split in favor of public transport and sustainable mobility"(TML), which will be responsible for Carris Metropolitana's operations throughout the entire Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
The investment of about 1.2 billion euros made with the operation of Carris Metropolitana will increase the bus service by about 35 %, which will translate into more routes, more routes and circulations, more modern, more efficient and environmentally sustainable buses, and more quality in the service provided.
The bus service network, designed by Área Metropolitana de Lisboa in conjunction with 18 municipalities, will consist of about 820 bus lines, serving approximately 2.8 million potential users. "unique and integrative brand" Carris Metropolitana.

Environmental sustainability will be promoted, through the renewal and qualification of the fleet, with a decrease in the average age of buses from 15 years to less than a year and the inclusion of a quota of non-polluting and energy-efficient vehicles, with eco-driving, economical, safe and comfortable driving measures. An improvement in passenger focus and attention is also planned, with the expansion of the sales and support services network and centralized information management.
The Metropolitan Carris will be officially presented this Friday, April 1st.
