The Lisbon Metro started, in the early hours of December 14, another disinfection action by electric nebulization throughout its network, "with a view to reinforcing the cleaning and sanitizing measures of this means of transport, for the greater safety of its customers and employees, actively contributing to the reduction of the risk of contamination and contagion of COVID-19 in the current pandemic situation in which the country finds itself".
The company explains that this is the tenth disinfection action by electric nebulization, "through the application of a product that complies with the European standard EN14476 for various strains of coronavirus and others, having shown an efficacy of more than 99.99%". “The product that has been applied has a prolonged action, the biocidal effect remaining active for 30 days from its application.“, further reads press release.
Metropolitano de Lisboa has already invested around โฌ344,000 in sanitization via the nebulization system to combat the outbreak of SARS-COV-2 (Covid-19). The disinfection of Metro stations covers fixed and mechanical stairway handrails, station furniture, ticket vending machines, control lines and validation channels, elevators, and other facilities.
In view of the current pandemic situation, Metro de Lisboa says it will continue to carry out more sanitization actions of this type until at least the end of the first half of 2021 (the initially contracted service ended in December 2020). "The possible contracting of actions after that date will be considered taking into account the pandemic situation of the moment".", the company adds. "In addition to these monthly cleaning actions in the stations, Metropolitano de Lisboa continues to reinforce the daily cleaning of the facilities and the most critical areas of contact with the public and its workers, which does not interfere with the aforementioned disinfection actions."
Since May, Metro de Lisboa is also reinforcing the cleaning and disinfection of handles and rods and other surfaces of greater contact inside the trains in circulation, in the period between the morning rush hour and the afternoon rush hour, on all lines. On trains, electric fogging is now carried out through daily applications that take place with trains parked at the platforms and / or terminals of some stations, from 21h00 and 22h00, respectively, on weekdays, the product is applied to around eight triple units (24 carriages) per day.
Alcohol gel for hand disinfection is available free of charge at the 56 stations of the Lisbon Metro. Disposable and community masks, gloves and individualized gel are also sold in the 84 vending machines on the network, at symbolic and affordable prices.
