During the bathing season, Carris Metropolitana network receives new lines in areas 2, 3 and 4, besides reinforcing circulations in Setúbal. The Sea type lines also start operating, which run towards the beaches on the South Bank of the Tagus and which aim to directly connect more remote areas of the metropolitan area to the beaches.

Six Sea Lines

Determined to be a real and reliable alternative in terms of urban mobility, Carris Metropolitana enters this summer season with direct connections between the municipalities of Odivelas, Vila Franca de Xira and Loures, and the beaches of Costa da Caparica, through four Mar Lines:

  • 2650 - between Santo António dos Cavaleiros (Loures) and Costa da Caparica, passing through Póvoa de Santo Adrião (Loures);
  • 2651 - between Bucelas (Loures) and Costa da Caparica, passing through Alverca (Vila Franca de Xira), Vialonga (Vila Franca de Xira) and Santo António do Tojal (Loures);
  • 2652 - between Forte da Casa (Vila Franca de Xira) and Costa da Caparica, passing through Póvoa de Santa Iria (Vila Franca de Xira), Santa Iria da Azóia (Vila Franca de Xira), São João da Talha (Loures), Bobadela and Portela (Loures);
  • 2850 - between Póvoa de Santo Adrião (Odivelas) and Costa da Caparica, passing through Odivelas, Famões (Odivelas) and Pontinha (Loures/Lisbon).
Sea Lines (via Carris Metropolitana)

On the South Shore, more specifically in the district of Setúbal, Moita and Montijo now have a connection to the beaches of Ouro and California, in Sesimbra, through two Mar Lines:

  • 3650 - between Moita and Sesimbra, passing through Alhos Vedros (Moita), Vale da Amoreira (Moita), Santo António da Charneca (Barreiro), Coina (Barreiro/Seixal) and Fernão Ferro (Seixal);
  • 4643 - between Montijo and Sesimbra, passing through Quinta do Conde (Seixal), Brejos de Azeitão (Setúbal) and Santana (Sesimbra) this was the only Sea Line launched yet in 2022.

On the Sea Lines, the Navigator Passes not are validexcept for children up to 12 years old (inclusive), who can pass their pass Navigator 12. Other passengers have to buy the trip on board (which costs €4.50) or pre-load their Navegante card (can be a disposable card), to travel for €3.10. TML, which manages the operation of Carris Metropolitana, wants this way not to encourage the use of the Mar Lines for local transport, in an attempt to ensure that the trips are more comfortable for people who have even the beach areas as their destination.

For passengers who wish to go to the beaches with their Navegante pass (without the occasional fare), there are several other options on the Carris Metropolitana network. Note that the Sea Lines operates only in the summer period, between July 1st and August 31st.

A toll-free line in Sesimbra

The line 3223between the traffic circle of Moagem de Sampaio and the Sesimbra bus terminalIt works in a "coming and going" format, between 8am and 8pm, and it is free of charge by initiative of the Sesimbra City Hall. Despite being a free line, the validation of passes and Navegante cards is still mandatory, since it is the only way for TML to know how many passengers seek this specific bus service.

This 3223 line works together with a parking lot that the Sesimbra City Hall installed in Moagem, the starting point of this "coming and going". This park has about 200 spaces, also free of charge. The Sesimbra Chamber explains that "aims to minimize the parking difficulties that occur in the village at this time of year, making it more practical, convenient and environmentally friendly to commute" and that "the financial costs of this operation are borne by the municipality, which counts on the support of Carris Metropolitana in the provision of vehicles and drivers"..

The Metropolitan Carris "shuttle" has an interruption in circulation between 10h30 and 12h00 - this interruption "takes into account mandatory rest period of available drivers to put this line into practice". Thus, in the morning period, the first bus departs from Sampaio at 8 AM and the last one at 10:35 AM; the first departure from Sesimbra is at 8:20 AM and the last one in this morning period is at 10:20 AM. In the afternoon, the first bus departs from Sampaio at 12:20 PM and the last one at 7:55 PM; from Sesimbra, the first bus in the afternoon leaves at 12 PM and the last one at 8:10 PM.
