If the natural slope of Tapada da Ajuda and Monsanto Forest Park doesn't invite you to go for a walk or by bikeThe new Carris line - which runs exclusively at weekends - could help convince you to pay a visit to these two green spaces in the city of Lisbon. The route is called 98D and runs between Alcântara and Monsanto.
The 98D is a new special Carris route, which will operate on weekends and public holidayscreating an alternative to individual transportation for recreational activities in Monsanto Forest Park. An opportunity for families to walk around and visit places like the Keil do Amaral Amphitheatre or the Alvito Children's Park, using public transport and with a reduced ecological footprint. This is because The vehicle that will run on the 98D is one of three new mini electric buses from Karsan Jest Electric, which are being tested by Carris over the next few months.
This new line will run along Rua de Cascais (Alcântara-Mar) and follow Rua Fradesso Silveira, Largo do Calvário, Rua Leão Oliveira, Calçada da Tapada, Avenida Universidade Técnica, Estrada dos Marcos, Estrada do Penedo, Cruz Oliveiras, Estrada do Alvito and Rua Prof. Vieira Natividade. It's here that it returns to Calçada da Tapada, then passes through Rua Leão Oliveira, Largo do Calvário, Rua Fradesso Silveira, Avenida 24 de Julho and Avenida da Índia, and ends again at Rua Cascais.
All tickets currently used by Carris are accepted, with the exception of the special ticket valid only on the Carreiras de Bairro. The 98D will operate between 8am and 8pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, with an average frequency of 60 minutes. The bus will leave its first stop at the right time, i.e. 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock, etc.
Carris tests electric minibuses
Since August 30, the three electric minibuses have been on the streets of Lisbon as part of a pilot projectThe aim of this pilot is to evaluate the characteristics of these vehicles in real-life conditions, to understand their operational restrictions and to gain knowledge that could be a good contribution to Carris' future fleet acquisition processes. The aim of this pilot is also to increase the company's maturity in the use of new bus technologies, in different parts of Lisbon's road network (with different gradients, curvatures and sidewalks) and at different times of the year (different transport demand and weather conditions).

The vehicles have a capacity of 19 passengers and are also running on the routes 22B, 734 and on the streetcar route 28E, between Praça Luís de Camões and Sapadores. This project is another step in Carris' commitment to the technological transformation of its fleet, so that all its vehicles will have zero local emissions by 2040.
Carris is a partner in the European project e-ULTIMATEfunded by the Innovation and Knowledge Community on Urban Mobility of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, and which works precisely on the theme of electrification of urban bus fleets.
