Lisbon's environmental quality monitoring sensors, that began to be placed in various points of the city in FebruaryNot all of them are on the site yet, but it is possible to consult, download and use the data that is collected by the part of the network that is already operational.
In all, there will be 80 environmental monitoring stations and 658 sensors with different purposes: some will monitor air quality, by measuring different particles, others will monitor road traffic, others will count the city's noise, and there will also be meteorological sensors. Some of the stations will have all kinds of sensors, others just a few, depending on what makes sense to measure at each point in the city. The map of the 80 stations can be seen at here.
For now, 29 stations are installed, corresponding to 241 sensors. There are several in the historic and riverside areas of the city and some scattered in other parts of the city. But the intention is that, within two months, the entire city will be monitored in real time.
The data from the already active sensors can be consulted in an open way through the Lisboa Aberta platform, by following this link. Making information available in an open way means that it can be used for any purpose (academic, political, journalistic...) and without any restriction. The data can be obtained in raw form on this pagetogether with detailed information (metadata) on how to interpret them.
At this point, you can access the following data:
- nitrogen dioxide, ozone, PM2.5 and PM10 particles, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide to monitor air quality;
- the equivalent continuous sound level (EQS) to find out the noise levels;
- atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, temperature, wind intensity and direction, global radiation, and ultraviolet radiation.
