The bicycle path of Avenida Lusíada, whose construction started at the end of February, is already concluded and now offers a direct and fast corridor between the parishes of Carnide and Benfica, and the Praça de Espanha (through Avenida dos Combatentes). In the future, it will connect to Cidade Universitária through Avenida Egas Moniz, but for the time being the works on the Carnide side are progressing.

As of next week, Lisbon City Hall will start connecting the bike lane on Avenida Lusíada to the existing infrastructure on Avenida Cidade de Praga, in Carnide. This connection of two loose points of the network will involve two one-way bike paths on Avenida Marechal Teixeira Rebelowhere there is already a small section for leisure purposes. The existing bidirectional bike path will be transformed into an undirectional one. On the other side of the avenue, another undirectional will be built towards Benfica.

The project includes the redesign of the Lusíada Avenue bike lane intersection, some crossings in the middle of the avenue, makes a good connection to the already existing bike lane in Cidade de Praga Avenue and prepares for the creation of the bike lane in Uruguai Avenue, in Benfica, which should be bidirectional. Some of the existing intersections will also be redesigned. The new one-way cycle track will be 1.8 kilometers long.

Avenida Marechal Teixeira Rebelo intersects with Avenida Lusíada and connects directly to Avenida Cidade de Praga, where two one-way bike paths were built in 2017. What is certain is that, once the work on this artery is concluded, a direct corridor will be created between Telheiras and Carnide, via Avenida Cidade de Praga, and Avenida Lusíada. This corridor will also allow, in the future, to quickly reach Benfica through Avenida do Uruguaiwhose bike lane was foreseen in the plan for pop-ups presented in June last year.

The missing 300 meters in Prague City

Starting next week, an existing discontinuity in Avenida Cidade de Praga will also be solved. There are 300 meters of one-way bike lanes that were left undone on that avenue, preventing a direct connection to São Francisco de Assis Square and Avenida das Nações Unidas, already in Telheiras and where there has been a bike lane since 2019. This work will involve sidewalk repair and the placement of platforms at the bus stops similar to those that were placed on Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa.

In the bike lane of Avenida de Berlim, in Olivais, one of the first in the plan pop-upthe discontinuities at the intersection with Avenida Infante Dom Henrique will be solved and a traffic circle will also be made at the arrival to Alameda dos Oceanos, specifically at the intersection with Avenida Dom João II - two details that had not been implemented at the time of the first intervention in May 2020. It will also be made the extension of the bike path executed in Avenida do Pacífico until the Alameda dos Oceanos.

"This work will eliminate discontinuities in the route, improving the safety and comfort of bicycle users. Av. de Berlim connects the parishes of Parque das Nações and Olivais, and connects with the network of bicycle paths on Av. Cidade de Luanda, with Vale do Silêncio Park and Alameda dos Oceanos, being an access axis to the Gare do Oriente interface".explains the Lisbon City Hall. "The work will be done in a phased manner with an estimated completion time of 30 days."
