Lisbon City Council invites you to plant trees in the city by 2022. First event is October 9th

"Plant your tree in Lisbon" is an initiative that will take place over several weekends until March 2022. There will be several plantings throughout the city with free registration.

It is inserted in the project Life Lungs, co-funded by the European Union, that Lisbon City Hall is launching the program "Plant your tree in Lisboninviting everyone who wants to do so to plant a tree in one of the city's gardens. The initiative will be organized on weekends, and is free of charge but requires registration.

The first day of "Plant your tree in Lisbon will be at a Saturday, October 9th. The action will take place in the morning in three city gardens simultaneously and will involve a total of 3,400 plants, among trees and shrubs:

  • Quinta das Conchas (forest + central nave) - 1 000 plants - 125 parking spaces;
  • Monsanto Correctional Facility (surrounding area) - 1 500 plants - 175 vacancies;
  • Miradouro do Avião (Airplane Viewpoint), in Olivais - 900 plants - 125 vacancies.

Registration can be made free for different time slots, between 9am and 12pm. Due to the pandemic, places are limited, so it is necessary fill out this formby selecting the place and time where you want to guarantee your presence. Learn more here.

The "Plant your tree in Lisbon" program will run until March 2022. It is aimed at everyone who wants to be part of it, whether they live or work in the city, or are visiting it. The actions can be family events, i.e. you can bring your family, or even an association, an informal community, or your company.

By 2024, the Life Lungs project expects to plant a total of 240,000 trees and bushes in Lisbon. has already planted about 52 thousand. This project aims to contribute to making the city more resilient to rising temperatures, mitigate the effects of heat waves and water shortages that are predicted to be more frequent in the near future, as part of the climate policies adopted by the municipality of Lisbon.
