Easily accessible on foot or by bicycle, the Miradouro das Olaias viewpoint offers a beautiful view of the Vale da Montanha Urban Park.
Lisbon has many sights. There are the classic ones, which everyone who visits the city likes to take on their cell phone, and there are the other views of the city - views of a different, less traditional, but equally spectacular Lisbon.
The view from Olaias to the well-known Mountain Valley was already there in a vacant lot that has now been reclassified and turned into a viewpoint. There are benches, trees growing and even a cat shelter. The Miradouro das Olaias is located at Rua Manuel dos Santos and it was a small work executed by Junta de Freguesia do Areeiro (JFA), in the scope of the delegation of competencies from the Lisbon City Hall to the parish councils.
The Olaias Viewpoint can be easily accessed on foot or by bicycle through the Casal Vistoso Urban ParkThis is right next to the CML social services building, where the bike path that connects to Avenida de Paris through the Areeiro traffic circle passes. The Miradouro das Olaias has a nice view to the trio of urban parks in the area: Vale da Montanha, Bela Vista and the already mentioned Casal Vistoso Urban Park.
The viewpoint was designed early last year by architect Tomás Taveira, author of many buildings in Olaias, at the request of the parish council. The works were started in mid-summer and finished recently."This was a vacant area and the Junta de Freguesia (parish council) decided to proceed with its requalification, taking advantage of the magnificent view, and thus increasing the offer of leisure areas in the parish. The space also counted with the framing of a shelter for wild cats, project of the architect Tomás Taveira".you can read on the JFA site.
The new Miradouro das Olaias is next to an existing viewpoint in a large meadow, which by now is quite green. It offers a similar view and is equally worth a visit.
