Open data is data that anyone can use, modify and share freely and for any purpose. - according to definition of the Open Definition. The concept of open data (open data) thus corresponds to the idea that certain data should be available for any person or entity to use without restriction, for example for statistical analysis, academic work or the development of innovative products.

Lisbon already has a tradition of open data, with the capital's municipality being one of the first in Portugal - if not the first - to launch an open data portal - the Open LisbonIn 2016, it aggregated information generated by the different municipal services and made it available to any citizen. This philosophy of openness and transparency is also extended to other players in the city, such as EMEL.

In addition to making your data available on Lisboa AbertaLisbon's municipal mobility company also has its own portal, the EMEL Open DataIt has just reinforced this with new datasets. In a note posted on LinkedIn, EMEL explains that it wants to reinforce its commitment to the "data sharing for greater knowledge generation, information, collaboration and transparency" and which therefore makes available on its open data portal "datasets of interest to the city“.

On EMEL Open Datayou can consult and download information about GIRA, cycle paths, the network BiciPark, the LIGHT electric vehicle charging system, car parking, road traffic and pedestrian accessibility. EMEL's aim is for people and entities to be able to use this data "in the search for innovative solutions to improve the mobility and transport system of the city of Lisbon".

Making data available allows you to create visualizations like the one below and was developed by the Ciclovias.pt portal in partnership with Lisboa Para Pessoas.

According to EMEL, the improvement of the open data portal is being developed in the framework of the European project VoxPop - which aims to develop a more collaborative model of mobility management in the city of Lisbon; in addition to sharing more data, the municipal mobility company is developing its harmonization according to European standards, such as DATEX II.
