Lisbon City Hall will receive a 70 thousand euro donation from a private energy group to reduce consumption in the Bela Vista Urban Park.

The City of Lisbon will receive a donation of 70 thousand Euros from Axiansthe technology arm of the VINCI Energies groupThis is a pilot project for the energetic requalification and optimization of the lighting system of the Bela Vista Urban Park. One of the largest public parks in the city will have LED lighting and a new system of supervision and regulation of the energy flowThis will allow a significant reduction in consumption, says the municipality in a press release.
Currently, the lighting system of the Bela Vista Urban Park is composed of 203 luminaires, of sodium vapor and metal halide, which annually consume 268.14 MWh; will be replaced by LED ones, with an annual consumption of 41.30 MWh, which will translate into a reduction of 86.4% of electricity consumed. At a later stage, the municipality intends to extend this replacement to the streets of Lisbon.

The donation of 70 thousand euros from Axians to the municipality of Lisbon results from an agreement signed between the two entities. From Axians' perspective it is one of the compensatory measures for the carbon emissions associated with the company's conference held in Lisbon this week. From the perspective of the Municipality of Lisbon, this type of partnership is something that the municipality intends to continue fostering in order to facilitate the commitments to energy transition and to share the responsibility between public and private entities.
The Municipality of Lisbon "is committed to the city's energy transition and to the realization of policies and measures that allow reach climate neutrality by 2030 and to become a center of experimentation and innovation in the field of climate action".We can read in a note sent to the press. For the municipality, this can be done through collaboration between local governments and the private sector.
"Our environmental responsibility, and civic responsibility, makes us assume this commitment to the municipality. We hope that the Bela Vista Urban Park will be an example for the city and for the country. One more step towards a more efficient and intelligent world, more sustainable and human"says Pedro Afonso, executive director of VINCI Energies Portugal.
