One of the old trains that circulated on the Sintra Line until the 1990s has returned to Rossio. CP recovered the old composition to create a historic train between the capital and the small town.

One of the trains that circulated until the 1990s on the Sintra Line - the Triple Electric Unit (UTE) nº 2064 - returned this weekend to Rossio for a special Christmas exhibition. It was on display Saturday and Sunday until 7 pm, properly illuminated. Access to the platform to see the train (from the outside only) was free.
Given the success of the first edition, CP informed this Monday that the train will return to Rossio station next weekend, December 25th and 26th. UTE 2064 will be illuminated and decorated again according to Christmas tradition.

This Triple Electric Unit (TEU) - so called because it consists of three cars in the same composition - was built in the 1960s by the Portuguese company Sorefame and was part of a batch of ten metallic-looking TPPs that, in 2005, were to be sold to Argentina. O deal ended in failure because that country paid for the refurbishment of the trains but not for the sea transport. As reported in the newspaper Público in FebruaryCP wants to recover two UTEs of the old Sintra Line to create a historic train between that town and Rossio, designed for tourism purposes and with no stops in between.
CP currently has two historic trains in its offer - one on the Douro Line and another on the Vouga Line - and the train from Sintra would complement this offer. The company has also invested in the recuperation of rolling stock, having returned five quadruple trains to the Sintra Line and two quadruple trains to the Azambuja Line as well.
