Until July 2nd you can see the installation by Canadian artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong at the Orient. The iconic installation is in Lisbon on the occasion of the United Nations Oceans Conference.

It catches the eye of passers-by in the square in front of the Gare do Oriente. Indeed: its large dimensions do not allow it to go unnoticed. We are talking about an enormous faucet that spouts plastic instead of water. The installation is signed by the Canadian artist and activist Benjamin Von Wong and is in Lisbon for the United Nations Conference on Oceanswhich is taking place in the Portuguese capital this week.
The piece was conceived by Von Wong in May 2021 for the United Nations and has now been reproduced in Lisbon, where it can be seen between Gare do Oriente and Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama, in Parque das Nações until July 2nd.
Entitled "Giant Plastic Tap", it consists of a giant faucet that appears to be suspended in the air, pouring approximately 200 kg of plastic bottles. The work symbolizes the urgency of a conscious use of plastic and the alert for its recycling, all so that they do not end up at the bottom of the oceans.
This installation has toured the world and asks governments, corporations and individuals to turn off the plastic tap. Von Wong launched the #TurnOffThePlasticTap movement calling for the importance of conscious use of plastic and, above all, for its recycling. The movement has been around the world, with sculptures in Nairobi, Miami or Toronto, and now Lisbon has been contemplated, with one of its works of art.
