A large green and pedestrian square will be created right in front of the Zoo as part of the municipal program A Square in Every Neighborhood. The works, which were scheduled to start in the second half of 2021, are only now getting underway. The new look of Sete Rios/Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado should be in sight within two years.

The d' projectA Square in Every Neighborhood involves the northern part of Sete Rios. The final parts of Estrada de Benfica and Estrada das Laranjeiras will be redone because traffic will no longer pass in front of the Zoo. Crossing the square, there will be a bidirectional cycle path linking Benfica and Laranjeiras roads - here there will be a 30+bike section, but it is envisaged that along most of Laranjeiras Road cycle traffic will be on a segregated bidirectional cycle path. The cycle path that will be created in the square should not yet connect to the cycle paths of Professor Lima Basto and Rua Conde de Almoster, as was planned in an earlier version of the d' project.A Square in Every Neighborhood for Sete Rios.

The square itself will have new green areas, a playground, water games, a GIRA station, a new metro exit and an amphitheater. An orange grove will also be built next to Estrada das Laranjeiras. The existing underground parking will be integrated into the design of the square. Bus stops will be relocated, as will cab ranks. The design of the square leaves room for the city's future bus terminal, where long-distance buses (from Rede Expressos) and also the suburban routes relocated from Praça de Espanha will pass. This terminal was envisaged in an early version of the d'A Square in Every Neighborhood for Sete Rios, from 2015, but was withdrawn in a revision made in 2019. The future terminal could be implemented in a 2nd phase d'A Square in Every Neighborhood or within the framework of future Execution Unit and Urban Rehabilitation Area of Sete RiosThis is an ambitious project to breathe new life into Sete Rios.

The project now launched covers only the northern part of Sete Rios, as mentioned, and has the following objectives general objective "structure and hierarchize the different uses of a complex and contradictory urban space, to promote the legibility of the place and enhance new forms of its appropriation"., it reads on the Lisbon City Council website. It is intended to integrate the road viaduct into the urban fabric, the reorganization of the road system and the creation of an urban square, the preparation for the future transport interface and also an intervention at the landscape level with a significant increase in the use of vegetation.

The implementation ofA Square in Every Neighborhood in Sete Rios will be carried out by Tecnovia and will cost an estimated €7.6 million. The work should be ready in January 2024. It should be noted that only the first phase of the project will be carried out. A second phase, which will include the city's future bus terminal, may be carried out under the scope of the project.A Square in Every Neighborhood or the Execution Unit and the Sete Rios Urban Rehabilitation Area.

You can see below the complete project that was planned for the entire Sete Rios square in 2015, under the program A Square in Every Neighborhood:
