The bike path that connected Bairro Padre Cruz to Pontinha, in the parish of Carnide, had been destroyed during the works for the Urban Park of Pontinha, where the Feira Popular will be installed. It was rebuilt and is now passable again.
The bike path that used to link the Padre Cruz neighborhood to Pontinha, in the parish of Carnide, was rebuilt after the construction work for the future Parque Urbano da Pontinha, where the Feira Popular will be located. The section has a revised route and is already passable.
With the cycling infrastructure that has been built in the area in recent years, the now rebuilt bike path integrates an already dense network. The bike path establishes a direct connection between Pontinha and Telheiras through the Renault traffic circle, Avenida Cidade de Praga and Avenida das Nações Unidas. It also already connects to Benfica through Avenida Marechal Teixeira Rebelo and to the central area of the city through Avenida Lusíada.
The cycle track between Bairro Padre Cruz and Pontinha had been destroyed in 2016 with the start of construction work on the Pontinha Urban Park, where the future Feira Popular is expected to be set. This Urban Park construction project has been quite lengthy and has had at least two start-ups. The completion of the park was scheduled for the beginning of 2018, then for the end of 2018, but construction was reportedly stopped between that year and mid-2019, with the entire space - including what had already been done in terms of green infrastructure - being abandoned during that time.
The year 2021 was pointed to the opening of the Urban Park of Pontinha, but it did not happen and now there is talk of finishing the infrastructure still this year - but only the green structure, still without the equipment of the future Feira Popular. On site, the Urban Park had in recent months several advances, including the level of finishes (including the new bike path), but the work seems to be stopped again.
Soon, we will tell in more detail the troubled history of the Pontinha Urban Park. For now, here is just a note about this bike path. The section surrounds the future green infrastructure, with a revised layout in some parts, reestablishing a direct connection between the Telheiras neighborhood and the Padre Cruz neighborhood and the Pontinha transport interface.
